  1. The city’s name is a variation of a fictional Indian girl, Alfarata, in a 19th-century song, “The Blue Juniata“. The name of the city might also have been derived from the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
  2. Alpharetta’s original town charter set a tax limit of $25 per year.
  3. Before the Great Depression and the introduction of the boll weevil, cotton was Alpharetta’s main industry.
  4. Forbes magazine once voted Alpharetta the nation’s 7th friendliest city.
